What is there to know about Daniel Gildenlöw?

Full name: Daniel Gildenlöw
Date of Birth: 5th of June 1973

Who inspires Daniel Gildenlöw?

Bands: Jesus Christ Superstar, Faith No More, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Chess (the musical), Dive, Pink Floyd's "The Wall." Vocalists: Mike Patton, Dalbello, Freddie Mercury, Bjorn Skifs, Carl Anderson,Tommy Korberg, Phil Lynott.

What does Daniel Gildenlöw play?

"I play the Parker Fly Classic (endorsed by KORG) which is the most brilliant guitar in the universe to this date!!! I also have an Ibanez Jem 777 (6-string) with a Tom Anderson pickup in tremolo position, a Fernandes JPG 855 and a Fender Stratocaster (with EMG 81 and Seymore Duncan Hotrail pickups). I use the Rocktron Piranha PreAmp, Rocktron Intellifex, Alesis M-EQ 230 (2x30 bands) equalizer, Rocktron Velocity 500 PowerAmp (2x250W Mosfet) and two Marshall 4x12 cabinets. I also have a Marshall rig with the JMP-1 PreAmp, the Digitech GSP-21 guitar processor and the Marshall 9000-series PowerAmp (2x50W Tube) which I used on the Entropia album. The Parker Fly has a stereo output, so I line the Magnetic pickup cord into my amplifier and the Piezo pickup cord directly to the mixer, with a "plate" reverb. The Magnetic cord goes into the Piranha. From the Piranha I loop the signal into the Intellifex with a stereo signal back to the Piranha. I have the loop-mix control at the Piranha at three quarters "wet". From the Piranha I send two signals to the Alesis equalizer, and from there two signals to the Rocktron Velocity PowerAmp. Then I just hook this gear up with the cabinets to get a superb sound. I control all this from an Art Ultrafoot floor controller, which is hooked up with the Piranha through the MIDI-out jack, and then I have another MIDI cable from the Piranha MIDI-Thru jack to the Intellifex."

Why did Daniel Magdic leave the band?

You can get this answer from the official website...:
In January 1998, just one month before the recording of "One Hour by the Concrete Lake," Daniel Magdic and the rest of the band, after some months of disagreement, decided to go separate ways. Johan Hallgren was asked to play on the album in Daniel's place and he had a hard time learning the songs on such short notice, but it worked out so well that he became a firm member of the band.

...or straight from the horse's mouth as Daniel posted to the Concrete Lake mailing list:
"There were no hard feelings. It was more or less a decision made in consensus. It's true that I was asked to leave the band but I felt that it was really releaving [sic] that they took the initiative. I had thought about leaving the band myself but I didn't want to spoil the recording of One hour... If you ask me for an analysis I would say that the dissagreement was due to that me and Gildenlöw had grown in separate ways. Not so much in our musical thinking but as persons. And I think that our relationship was locked in the past which prevented our own personal development. I think that this made us both frustrated and caused the disagreement.
This is my analysis and I'm not sure if Daniel Gildenlöw agrees with me :-)"

What are the guys currently doing outside Pain of Salvation?

Daniel resently posted to the Concrete Lake mailing list what some of the band members have been up to during the down time:
"At the moment I am teaching guitar and vocals in my home town, and I also have a small individual business in artwork, multimedia and, just recently, video producing (no, I did not produce our new video, we worked with pros). Kristoffer is teaching bass and has started a business in instrument repair. Fredrik is still studying chamber music, even though POS as a project is threatening to end his studies (it is getting harder for all of us to do anything on the side, which could be seen as positive - I had to give up my studies a year ago)."

What is Daniel Magdic doing right now?

Daniel is currently in an excellent band called Cudfish. You can check out their site at www.cudfish.com or check out some samples here although Daniel tells us that they are a little outdated.

What is Gustaf Hielm doing right now?

Gustaf has been playing bass for Meshuggah (so far only on the Chaosphere album) after the former bassist, Peter Nordin, had to leave.
